(Birmingham) Youth Service America (YSA) provides grants for schools and non profits to engage students in service learning projects. They are also a clearing house for a variety of foundations and corporate sponsored grants as well. Now is the time to apply for grants to support Global Youth Service Day activities for April 21-22, 2018. Suggestion: Identify at least one if not several teachers to log on to this site, view the semester of service video and register. Once registered, they should apply for multiple grants to fund their project. The entire process can be done in thirty minutes to an hour depending on how huge your idea is.
Fund Raiser
(Birmingham) Historically Black College and University Baseball will take center stage at Regions Park on April 18, 2018. In the double header match up, Miles College will host Tuskegee University in the 1st Annual Golden Glove Diamond Classic. The second game of the double header will match Alabama A&M University v. Alabama State University in the 2nd Annual Magic City Diamond Classic.
Schools may earn money through ticket sales to teachers, school sponsors, students and parents. School tickets will be sold at a cost of $10.00. Schools will earn $4.00 per ticket sold. Additional information available upon request.
Elementary Rugby
(Birmingham) Through a partnership with Birmingham Rugby there is an opportunity to field (4) Flag Rugby teams in a (4) game season to culminate around May 22nd. If you are interested in the opportunity please contact me by Tuesday, February 20th. Only (3) slots available. Each participating school will be provided a Coach who will lead a Rugby Day orientation, tryouts and identify participants. Games will be played at Ramsay Park in Mountain Brook.
Call for Proposals
(Birmingham) On April 14, 2018 from 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM at Charles A. Brown Elementary.the National Alliance of Black School Educators-Birmingham will sponsor an Education Summit focusing on developing an “Action Plan”, to counteract the “School to Prison Pipeline”, and improve the educational opportunities for African-American and urban youth.
The Summit will open with a Keynote Address by Ms. Nanyamka
Shukura of the Southern Poverty Law Center who will define the “School to
Prison Pipeline” and document through case law and a variety of public data how
this threat to our children is real. After the opening keynote, participants
will be allowed to select from a menu of break sessions aimed at identifying
solutions to this challenge.
The Summit will close with a panel discussion that will
inform our research and planning toward the development of our Action Plan.
Panelist will include professionals from a variety of fields including,
education, law enforcement, sociology, religion, sports marketing and the legal
field.
We are looking of Birmingham Area Administrators and teacher leaders interested in submitting a proposal to present during one of the morning breakout sessions.
